When asked what he thought accounted for people's strong negative feelings toward him (what Charles Krauthammer smarmily refers to as "Bush Derangement Syndrome"), Bush seemed a bit perplexed and said that he really doesn't think all that many people in the country feel anger or animosity toward him. He said that, when he goes out among the people, they're generally cordial and pleasant. He has no idea why some people are so angry or behave in a rude manner, but he certainly never let that affect any of his policy decisions. And when asked about negative perceptions of the US overseas, he said that he <i>disagrees</i> that people in other parts of the world view America in a dim light.. <i>As if it's a matter of opinion.</i> I think this is an exact quote: "It may be damaged amongst some of the elite. But people still understand America stands for freedom." The last thing I heard was a comment to the effect that he had to make the tough, right decisions he did in order to be able to look himself in the mirror back in Texas. Fuck me up a flagpole.
