Thing-a-day

I’m participating in Thing-a-day this year. I think it’s a bit like India’s DrawMo! but without the emphasis on drawing- although that’s what I’m doing over there. It’s been a week, and it seems I’ve stumbled onto “unexecutable” as my focus. I am currently illustrating things I cannot do. I may switch it up to things I can do- executables- but for now I like the idea of drawing things I can’t make happen.

Other than showering, shaving (most days) flossing and (most days) taking a dump (not necessarily in that order) I’m really awfully bad at repeating anything on a daily basis.(parenthetically expressing something (however) I do at the drop of a hat.)

I’m not terribly good at consistent action either, Rick. However, it struck me as possible during the shortest month to make a doodle everyday. I will see how it all works out. It does help that 5 of my good friends are participating too- it adds the needed communal aspect to the daily habit. You are able to check clusterflock everyday? (that’s like brushing teeth, (I assume.))

Funny, we were just talking about this topic on our Clusterbookclub meeting over the weekend. You might be inspired by Elizabeth’s 1000 days minimovie, it’s posted here somewhere but I cannot access the archives today. It’s also on her site .

So Elizabeth was talking about that, and Rick was remembering his own remembery , which I hope he gets back to someday because I liked it very much.

Clusterbookclub audio on the way, when I’ve finished dusting and polishing it.

Mary, after I made the comment above it occurred to me that I indeed check c’flock at least daily. Usually multiple times. Can’t live without it.

Man, am I sorry I missed that, Lucy. But meatspace has a way on encroaching on internet fun times. :(

You and everyone else will have ample opportunity to post in comments, for the clusterclub meeting was but an introduction, a kick-off you might say. I am looking forward to doing more, though… ok, but, meatspace?

Oh, dudes, the tale I could tell about my well-laid plan to palaver with Lucy et al. and its abrupt abortion. Is there such a thing as loose-meat space? If there is, that’s what got in my way. In a sorta metaphorical way.

The way things fell apart that afternoon, it was almost like some fiction by Daryl Scroggins, you know?

But I’m awful glad Lucy will be posting the recorded chin-wag. I’ll prolly jump in with a comment or two, and I look forward to joining the next meeting viva voce.

Ok, I’ve gotten my belly laugh of the moment:

“That dreadful melange of canned green beans, canned cream of mushroom soup, and canned onion rings? Campbell’s has created a frozen, microwaveable version of that! So I know that flash-freezing a loose-meat sandwich is possible; I just don’t know how to do it.”

Sheila Ryan, comment on loose-meat thread.

I just don’t know how to do it.

Kinda like young Elvis Costello and the Mystery Dance.

You see, that’s vision, right there. Not everybody has that.

  11. Sheila Ryan on February 10th, 2009 at 1:10 pm

Well, Lucy, that’s good to hear. It’s what I’m banking on at this stage in my life: the vision thing. I’m giving up fretting about the talent thing and the gift thing. I know that I see stuff. So I’m just trying to show’n'tell and holler, “Lookee! Lookee!”

And: to get back to Mary’s participation in the Thing-a-day thing, a short while back I embarked on my own private thing-a-day thing, and I called it Cock-a-Day because every day I drew a kind of blind sketch of a cock that’s on a decorative plate that sits on my mantle. I had Andrew’s post about A Boy and His Rooster in mind, and I do want to draw a cock especially for Andrew. But I’ve only drawn two or three cocks since I resolved to draw a cock a day.

Still, I commenced to draw a cock just a minute or so ago, then broke off to comment, so if y’all will excuse me, I will go and finish my cock.

  12. Sheila Ryan on February 10th, 2009 at 4:00 pm

Andrew, I’ve stepped out, and I’m not yet done with your cock, but it’s on my agenda. Soon as I’m back. Promise.
