Much of what drives me to want to photograph the States can be found in the work of Jeff Brouws.

This calls to mind the uncredited photographer of a postcard I scanned and posted to clusterflock ages ago. (Must have been drunk. How else to account for the right-hand truncation?)

I love this photo. I’d no doubt love the motel, too.

Cindy, you woulda loved what I dubbed the Fool-for-Love Motel in Blanding, Utah.

Brouws does this so well – amongst other things. I love the thought of the Family Accomodations cooled by Refrigeration.

I’ve been all hung up on hand-painted sign art of late. To the point where I’ve bought a brush and started dabbling on paper. There are worse ways to spend your time in an old city than by looking around for the handwriting of generations past.

In a really old city: looking for the piss stains of generations past. Believe me, piss and stone, they make things pretty.

White letters gone to pink: sign of a long, long drive on meth.
