Macho of the Year
The French group Les Chiennes de garde, literally “The Guard Bitches”, announced its recipients of its ‘Macho of the Year’ awards. First Prize:
Cardinal Andre Vingt-Trois made his prize winning remark about the difficulties of recruiting women to jobs in the Roman Catholic Church last November on a radio programme, sparking a string of protests.
“The hard part is finding women who are properly trained. It’s not enough to have a skirt, you have to have something between your ears as well,” he said.
Runner up:
It gave second prize to comedian Fabrice Eboue for his comment on French television that “feminism is not just for authoritarian or sexually frustrated women, it’s also for lesbians”.

Andre Vingt-Trois? What kind of sci-fi name is that for a high-ranking ecclesiastical dude?
I must ask Jacques and Yves about this.
I’m so glad that you are still in touch with them, Cindy.
Oh, yes, so am I. The next time you’re in Paris, I highly recommend staying at the Bastille.
That place I stayed last time, where the blanket smelled of piss — maybe that was your Bastille.
Oh, I doubt it–the Bastille don’t have no blankets.
Ah. Is it more like The Lock-up at Belmont and California in Chicago?, I wonder. I stayed there one night.
(The Lock-up didn’t have blankets either.)
Yes, more like that, except the Bastille is ultra-hip with concrete floors and no furniture. It’s all about the space, you know.
And the Frenchmen.
oui.
