Of binder and butterfly clips

clips

It would appear that English and American terms for those Office & School Supplies designated for the benefit of US Amazon customers as Clips, Clamps & Rings are not identical.

I went to amazon.co.uk for help. Perhaps I will find it in this book.

Well, the damn thing on the front we call a clothes peg!

If anybody feel slightly embarrassed that they missed my birthday back in January then feel free to buy me this book. It looks like a page turner, just the thing to get me reading again.

Pegs? Clothes pegs? “Wanna buy some pegs (0:50), Dave?”

I’m sorry, I have no idea what you are suggesting. Pure British stock me, you know!

Those Brits–they have a different word for everything! That’s a clothes pin, hon. A clothes pin.

PIN? Now, forgive me if I have the wrong end of this, but, don’t pins have points on the end? Or was that one of those mad British dreams!

    Pin, indeed!

Look, mister, I don’t make the rules–I just enforce them.

An ink pin or a straight pin?

  8. Phil Bebbington on March 12th, 2009 at 10:13 am

Cindy, I was unsure of your role in this. I just can’t help feeling that continuing to call things pins when they quite clearly aren’t can only lead to trouble!

    Sheila–exactly.

Phil, I think it best that we stop trying to communicate altogether, lest someone get hurt.

Cindy, I feel kinda safe – remember what happened when you headed off to Birmingham to sort the apostrophe incident out? Paris was about as close as you got – what chance of finding Bath – Oops! Fuck, I revealed my location.

    Run, Phil! Run!
