Lookit My Hair
I have been growing my hair out for some time, and since I don’t know if many of you have seen a recent picture of me, here’s this. Sans makeup and “pulling a face” as Sheila might say.
I am so proud of myself for denying the urge to take a pair of scissors to it and give myself a Mia Farrow/Rosemary’s Baby, which is my all-time favourite hair cut. Taking decent pictures of oneself is tremendously difficult, I find. Does anyone else have any recent self-portraits that they are particularly proud of?

Lookit that whimsical bemused expression! If ye gets antsy, come on down here to Alamo: I’ve got the shears.
Love your eyebrows, girl.
And yes — I do have a very recent self-portrait of which I am oh-so-proud because I achieved it without the aid of a set of artificially sweetened wax teeth from the five-and-dime store.
lovely.
You look beautiful, Amanda Mae. And I’m with you–the Mia Farrow/Rosemary’s Baby hair cut is the best of all time. I spent many years with that cut and long for it still. If we get too drunk at clusterflockstock, you and I might get the scissors and go to town!
Love the photo, Amanda Mae. The self-portrait favorite of my friends seems to be this one (uploaded to flickr for all y’alls benefit.).
I love that one Andrew. You look like an old Dashiell Hammett character, a writer from long ago.
also, y’all are sweet.
Amanda, you look fresh, young, and beautiful! Remember that bobby pins and headbands are your friends during this stressful time.
And remember that you have gorgeous eyebrows.
Yes, those brows are purrrfect.
Andrew, that’s a sick portrait.
Amanda, you look hot, no matter what the haircut.
i have one. here you go. i dig the map-adorned office. is that a giraffe?
Well look at Dane Larson, millionaire playboy and man about town.
Yes, that’s a giraffe. It is my friend’s office. She also has a stuffed mosquito!
Thanks for the eyebrow adoration. If I may be so bold, my eyebrows are envied around town as well.
Amanda Mae – I like your impish look and nice move on the hair. as for self portraits – I take more than I used to with varying success. So, if you have the stomach for it you can see my best side here http://is.gd/rGLY and perhaps more agreeable sides, here http://is.gd/rGMg here http://is.gd/rGMu and at the risk of boring you, here http://is.gd/rGMJ
Stunning, Phil. As always, I love your work.
Phil, I really like the first face portrait.
Deron, that’s great that you like that self-portrait of Phil’s. As you can quickly gather by skimming the comments on it, Phil’s fan base apparently want him to grin like Alfred E. “What, me worry?” Neuman. In the face of popular demand, Phil has resolutely vowed not to smile for his public, and I admire him for that.
Andrew – Deron, thank you. It took me a while to get into self portraits – they are an interesting exercise. Not something that comes naturally, perhaps pushing us into an uncomfortable place that as adults we can easily back away from.
Of course, there is then the showing people – that is a real head fuck, well, it was for me.
Something’s in the air. Dig: What a relief! I feel like a soldier, but look like a thief!
This has inspired me to ask Daryl to take a candid shot of me, which I will post. I’ve avoided cameras for years, out of pure vanity. But, really, who am I kidding? The fact is that I have no idea what I really look like to others. I guess no one does. Stupid perception. Stupid mirrors.
You guys are all way, way too pretty.
Andrea, though this is a picture of Amanda Mae, I’ll assume you mean me.
Thanks!
