    There was also an uncomfortable moment earlier when the dog awkwardly handed him his favorite chew toy, catching both the President and spectators off-guard.

    @Garrett it’s so hard to know what the expected response is in these sort of interactions, especially with the language barrier.

    I note that the dog is on a long enough lead to prevent the mounting of the Presidents leg. I always feel that is a perfect greeting and often breaks those awkward silences that accompany first meetings.

    Oh, Phil, that is so true. Alas, Americans (both human and canine) can be prudish, lacking as they often do the sophistication of foreigners.
