AP press release about Michael Jackson’s death

Ok this is indeed the Des Moines Register, but it was the only link on the topic on the AP’s front page as of a few minutes ago.

A sad fall from grace and an untimely death for the King of Pop.

    Lifes a bitch…….

The Des Moines Register, long known for its painstaking exactitude, unfortunately mispelled Jermaine Jackson’s name as Germaine. A lawsuit is undoubtedly about to ensue. Originally from Des Moines, I am painfully shamed by this typographical error.

Of note, however, was that “the coroner’s office, which will handle inquiries into the type of death, is taking possession of the body.” What is this “type of death”? I suppose that one might wax philosophical, one could come up with all sorts of sordid explanations for “type of death.”

    Pills and liquor.
    Auto-erotic asphyxia.
    Coronary on the toilet.
    Astride a prostitute.

    Other thoughts?

A dead kind of death. You probably don’t want the lively kind of death. Or the unusual kind of death. Probably the boring kind of death would be the people’s choice.

Types of death may include but are not limited to:

Death (lonely) in a furnished room
    Death by misadventure
Death followed by interment in a shallow watery grave
    Death before one’s time
    Death well after one’s time

    Death before dishonor

We need to get Edward Gorey in here. I need to go to sleep. Whoah, folks. Michael Jackson is dead. This is such a weird one.

You know, the date often given for Gorey’s birthday (February 22) is as close to mine as makes no difference.

Unlike Gorey, though, I’m still alive.

I suspect this may confer some manner of obligation on me.
