Avian Serving Trays

Pia, Bernardo, and Bianca

I love these melamine trays adorned with absurd formal busts of birds.

    Oh!!

  2. Sheila Ryan on June 5th, 2009 at 8:41 am

I see that the girl-birds are temporarily out of stock, but that is okay. I like the boy-birds, too.

  3. Deron Bauman on June 5th, 2009 at 8:41 am

I bet Cindy will love them also.

  4. Sheila Ryan on June 5th, 2009 at 8:42 am

€98,00 is not too much to pay for a heat-resistant serving tray bearing the image of a beautifully costumed bird.

  5. Sheila Ryan on June 5th, 2009 at 8:43 am

Cindy has already gasped in wonder.

  6. Cindy Scroggins on June 5th, 2009 at 8:45 am

Daryl, I would like Bianca for my birthday, please. “Pre-order now for shipping in June.”

    Thank you very much.

  7. Amy Mabli on June 5th, 2009 at 8:48 am

I knew Cindy could appreciate these!

(I found a couple of these on other websites. Daryl may want to search around.)

  8. Amy Mabli on June 5th, 2009 at 8:49 am

For me, it would be a toss up between Pia and Bianca.

  9. Cindy Scroggins on June 5th, 2009 at 8:56 am

Pia is a very close second for me, Amy, and if I think about it for too long, she might overtake Bianca. There’s something about the mother/child aspect of Bianca that really appeals to me. Kind of like the Virgin Mary.

Daryl, feel free to purchase either of these. I don’t want more than one, though (my comment on another thread notwithstanding). A single one has more power than multiples.

Beautiful. Anyone want to get me a house-warming present?

  11. Cindy Scroggins on June 5th, 2009 at 9:53 am

Yes, Derek, I do. Tell me the one you want and where to ship.

These are very groovy. I have always been partial to the dressing up of animals and birds. They remind me of the day when it was okay to dress chimps up, sit them at a table and make them drink tea from a china cup.

  13. Kelsey Parker on June 5th, 2009 at 11:25 am

Who needs ladybird trays when you can have Bernardo with his little bee-friend?

Phil, you speak of the day as if you were around to participate. What else can you tell us about those times?

  14. Phil Bebbington on June 5th, 2009 at 11:41 am

Well, Kelsey. I was speaking more of British TV in the 60s when such things were common place. I assume the states also.

We have a zoo in Bristol and I remember that you could go and watch the chimps tea party or feed the elephant buns. The animals were more a sideshow then than a preservation issue – more a circus. Of course we knew no different and it seemed totally acceptable, or at least not out of the ordinary.

As you may have guessed, I’m not in favour of such things, but, the world did seem more simple then.

  15. Derek White on June 5th, 2009 at 12:50 pm

wow, that’s a tough one between Bernardo and Ambroise… I guess I’d have to say Ambroise. But they appear to be sold out? You are kind for even offering. And I do have an address! Finally. It’s 69 Eighth Avenue #53, NY, NY 10014, sort of at the convergence of west village, chelsea and meat packing. Feel free to send me elephant, bird or any other animal bombs. And NY flockers, anyone up for clustering for drinks?

  16. Cindy Scroggins on June 5th, 2009 at 12:54 pm

Derek, this is wonderful! I think only the girl birds are sold out. A fine tray will be on its way to you soon! I love the idea of contributing to the home of someone who has experienced so much of the world. I can’t describe it–it makes me feel as if I am included in what you have seen.

Okay, that’s crazy, so let’s not think about it. Buying the tray….

  17. Derek White on June 5th, 2009 at 3:35 pm

Wow, Cindy, you are way too kind! You really don’t have to if you haven’t already. If you did, it will be the first piece of art to go up on the bare walls of our new apartment and will much appreciated. If only I had something to reciprocate with from Africa, we shipped a few things back, but half of it arrived broken. I am speechless and grateful.

  18. Phil Bebbington on June 5th, 2009 at 3:38 pm

Derek, I may be speaking out of turn, but, I reckon a dried and mummified reptile would do the trick.

  19. Cindy Scroggins on June 5th, 2009 at 3:39 pm

It’s done, Derek. And I am the one who is reciprocating for all you and Jess did in Africa, and the many thoughtful descriptions and photos you shared. The hugeness of it all, the beauty–it was a lasting gift.

  20. Cindy Scroggins on June 5th, 2009 at 3:39 pm

Oh, Phil, you certainly know the way to a girl’s heart.

  21. Phil Bebbington on June 5th, 2009 at 3:43 pm

Cindy, the dead and the mummified have a beauty all of their own. I can often be seen wandering the dusty olive groves of Crete, head down, looking for dead reptiles for you.

  22. Cindy Scroggins on June 5th, 2009 at 3:46 pm

Thank you. I do love them.

  23. Derek White on June 5th, 2009 at 3:46 pm

Unfortunately I didn’t bring any mummified animals back. We shipped a large cowry shell back and the fish and wildlife confiscated it for a while thinking it was some sort of endangered animal. Went through hell to get it, but we got it.

Thanks Cindy, in reciprocation how about I give a goat to heifer international on behalf of clusterflock? I could even track and report on the progress of the goat.

  24. Cindy Scroggins on June 5th, 2009 at 3:55 pm

    That’s a wonderful idea!!

  25. India on June 5th, 2009 at 4:12 pm

I would get a bird tray, but I already have a deer tray made by the same people (almost exactly like this, but with a deer on it somewhere). One needs only so many trays.

(Cindy, I hope you didn’t order from the UK; you can get these stateside, you know . . . at Velocity, for instance.)

(Derek, we will discuss this drinks matter on the back channel.)
