at first I was trying to figure out if this was a parody.

This puts me in mind of conversations I recall from my Texas childhood.
“I’m going to the kitchen. You want a coke?”
“Yeah, sure. What kinda cokes you got in there?”
“Hang on. We got Dr. Pepper, Mountain Dew, and Coke.”
“Okay, I’ll have me a Dr. Pepper.”
Happens a lot though. We hoover carpets for example or Xerox a document etc.
Shows just how lazy and limited our vocabularies become.
