I would like to add that I have never tried to swallow a peach stone, I have just been on the brink several times – not for a few years but a peach stone in my mouth always gives me those thoughts.

Danny, you have me salivating here, which given my age passes for dementia! I’d love the recipe for that as well, or do I have do fly over there to sample?

Kathy – I may take on board your policy of not swallowing anything that later may cause problems. I really do need to think before I swallow.

I am making a peach-and-cherry martini cobbler tomorrow from some lovely white-fleshed peaches…the aroma of the fruit is already heady. The flaky crust is made from iced vodka; hence the name.

However, a caveat: “The inadvertent ingestion of fruit pits is always attended by the possibility of mechanical ileus, although in most instances, unless the pit be extremely large, viz-a-vis, a peach stone, or the subject a child, progression through the intestinal tract is prompt and asymptomatic. Therefore, I shall “omit” rather than spit.

As a general rule, once it is in my mouth, there it remains until such time as swallowing is right and proper. If that involves a bit of roughage along with the pulp, so be it. I have long associated spitting with people who set coffee cans on the floor alongside their chairs, but that may be a peculiarly American association.

I do admire accomplished projectile spitting.

Phil, whenever I think of the fabled Allman Brothers album, I will think of you.

And take heart with respect to your peachy aspirations. It is through stretching our imagined capacities that we grow.
