PITETSBKRRH
For 80 years, a beacon atop the Grant Building in downtown Pittsburgh has flashed out the word “Pittsburgh” in Morse code. At least it was supposed to. No one knows for how long it’s been happening, but a sharp-eyed city resident waiting for a 4th of July fireworks show noticed the dots and dashes actually spell out P-I-T-E-T-S-B-K-R-R-H.

I sent this link to my mother. She said:
“And to think that is where I had my first real job! 15th floor. At a company that no longer exists. I wonder if the best chinese restaurant ever is still behind the building in what was, at least in those days, chinatown.”
That would have been around 1960.
I’ve read many articles and opinions about how the internet has a negative effect on personal relationships because we don’t spend as much time talking in person. But if it weren’t for the various internet paths that brought you to post this and me to see it, I probably wouldn’t have ever known this snippet of information about my mother.
Thanks.
Yes!
I was just trying to explain something along those lines to my mother on Wednesday. Instead, we ended up having the where-do-people-find-the-time conversation. Again.
