   I heard tell he one time took his glasses off.

   He did that in the hope he’d not be recognized. He was using a straw to blow bubbles in a glass of iced Pu Erh. I tried to make him stop. But who listens to a squawking woman with her hair bunched up in a topknot?

   Maybe he just wanted to blur his vision. Maybe he thought that if he could not see others, they could not see what he was doing nor who he was with.

   Ain’t it the truth. Sang-froid sufficient to maintain a steady temperature no matter what spectacle I present. And that’s been a heap of spectacles over the years.
