Garlic Scape

Garlic Scape

I bought these when I was at Loch Fyne Oyster shop (I was trying to find some crabs to draw). They’re the stalks of garlic which are taken off before they grow any further to allow the garlic bulbs to develop. Apparently you can slice them up and use these just like garlic, they also make a mighty fine pesto.

I like this one quite a lot. Thanks for sharing. Glad the “numbers” aren’t quite 666. Hehe.

Lovely, Will. Their lithe shapes remind me somwhat of eels. And it delights me hugely to hear that you went to the place “to find some crabs to draw.”

Wil, I like this. Reminds me of a frond of greenery I saw clenched between my cat’s teeth along with a limp, murdered mousie day before last. (“It’s not just a mouse. It’s a meal.”)

And I do hope you find some crabs to draw.

I got some of these at my local greenmarket a month or so ago. They were lovely in everything I put them in.

They are also lovely in this drawing.

Just found your blog on my Google alert. My husband and i are the garlic farmers in Scotland who supply loch fyne with their garlic and garlic scapes that you have so beautifully sketched. Did you try eating them after you drew them? They are great for stir frys and salads too.
