Today is the 57th anniversary of the bar code. I wonder what would be displayed if you scanned it?

    Happy Birthday, dear Bar Code…

Wow, the bar code is older than Renner. I mean, if . . . but surely Cindy is correct, in which case . . . I will now sit quietly for a spell.

There are dates all over the place on this–everywhere from 50 to 60 years. If I weren’t so lazy, I’d do the librarian thing and check an authoritative reference. But, as we all know, I am very lazy. So let’s just say that Google is celebrating the barcode and leave it at that.

I suppose we could consider Google to be an authoritative reference and assume that it’s replaced its logo with a barcode because of a round number like 50.

I just went by what popped up when I clicked on the barcode.

I guess I deserve a big duh. I did a google search and clicked the bar code which took me to the main google search page. I didn’t think to click the barcode again.

i thought that was just how it normally looked in Thailand, looked cool surrounded by thai text … here’s how you say google in thai: ข้อมูลส่วนบุคคล

You can always just hover over the symbol, Deron, it pops up what the celebration is.

The bar code is a “128 Code”, when you convert the code to ASCII character strings (ie. A-Z, a-z, 0-9, etc.) you get The code = “Google” ;)

I printed this out on paper while I was bored at work today, then scanned it.
