There are dates all over the place on this–everywhere from 50 to 60 years. If I weren’t so lazy, I’d do the librarian thing and check an authoritative reference. But, as we all know, I am very lazy. So let’s just say that Google is celebrating the barcode and leave it at that.
I suppose we could consider Google to be an authoritative reference and assume that it’s replaced its logo with a barcode because of a round number like 50.
I guess I deserve a big duh. I did a google search and clicked the bar code which took me to the main google search page. I didn’t think to click the barcode again.

You can always just hover over the symbol, Deron, it pops up what the celebration is.
The bar code is a “128 Code”, when you convert the code to ASCII character strings (ie. A-Z, a-z, 0-9, etc.) you get The code = “Google”
