What song did you wake up singing?

from the comments

Sheila Ryan:

And I really do need to get back up there and photograph what appears to be the white wedding of a pale-faced female mannequin and a fiberglass horse.

Why I Love Texas, No. 782

There were two guys in the closet. They appeared to be sleeping, one was snoring and the other was deceased,” said Assistant Chief Deputy Mark Herman. “It appeared that they were doing some sort of narcotics, at least the one that they woke up.

Where the Wild Things Are

Gruber found this:

Reporter: “What do you say to parents who think the Wild Things film may be too scary?”

Sendak: “I would tell them to go to hell. That’s a question I will not tolerate.”

Reporter: “Because kids can handle it?”

Sendak: “If they can’t handle it, go home. Or wet your pants. Do whatever you like. But it’s not a question that can be answered.”

When we are driving in the city, we tend to take one of the roads that winds through Schenley Park, if we can.

Update on the show of my work in Indiana – photos are now up on the Moreau Galleries website. I was not able to be at the opening, but the installation looks great in the pictures.

Hello World! or: How I Learned to Stop Listening and Love the Nois

From Christopher Baker’s website:

Hello World! is a large-scale audio visual installation comprised of thousands of unique video diaries gathered from the internet. The project is a meditation on the contemporary plight of democratic, participative media and the fundamental human desire to be heard.

On one hand, new media technologies like YouTube have enabled new speakers at an alarming rate. On the other hand, no new technologies have emerged that allow us to listen to all of these new public speakers. Each video consists of a single lone individual speaking candidly to a (potentially massive) imagined audience from a private space such as a bedroom, kitchen, or dorm room. The multi-channel sound composition glides between individuals and the group, allowing viewers to listen in on unique speakers or become immersed in the cacophony. Viewers are encouraged to dwell in the space.

2012

I came back from England last year and, man, they had me fed up with this stuff.

echolocation for the blind

Seven-year-old Lucas Murray, blind since birth, has mastered the ability to navigate without his parents’ assistance.

The incredible change, his mother said, is owed to a technique called echolocation, similar to the method used by dolphins and bats, that allows Lucas to paint a picture of his surroundings using sound he creates himself.

To “see” the world around him, he clicks his tongue on the roof of his mouth and listens to the echo that bounces back. From the sound, he can make out the location, depth and shape of objects around him, allowing him to navigate even unfamiliar areas.

Hoppy Rabbit

The only bedtime story my father told me….

Hoppy Rabbit

Once upon a time there was a rabbit named Hoppy. One day he skipped school and went into town.  He had a lot of fun. A nice man gave him a big bag of peanuts, and he sat down and ate the whole bag. By that time it was dark, so he raced home. His mother was MAD. She sent Hoppy to bed without his supper, and boy, was he glad, because he was still full from all those peanuts.

The End

it’s raining rocks

When a front moves in, small rocks rain down on the surface, a new study suggests.

More satisfying than the ending to Magnolia.

A gesture of surprise

I read a small story which I think many of you will enjoy. Hopefully none are discouraged by the medium. Other stories there are also entertaining, in different ways.

The Eigenharp Alpha

The Eigenharp Alpha is a guitar, drum, synth woodwind. Or something.

Adopt a Liberal

Liberty Counsel has therefore named this special new prayer-in-action program Adopt a Liberal. And that’s exactly what we invite you to do — adopt a liberal who is in authority for regular, intense prayer in accord with St. Paul’s admonition to his disciple, Timothy. In fact, we expect that many of our friends and supporters will choose to adopt many liberals as subjects of regular prayer!
