Viewing most of these scenes hurts me, yet I find something beautiful in the impulse I assume inspires these people.

For me, there is tremendous sadness in a middle-aged woman dressing as she did at her high school homecoming. It is possible to do this ironically, of course, in which case it would a happy/funny site. But without seeing more of her face, the image of an older woman wearing a letter jacket and elaborate corsage is, well, sad.
