Communication

The beauty of writing is it affords a person the luxury of sitting in silence.

With NaNoWriMo, in Andrew’s silence, the thing I’ve discovered I’m doing is making room to spend 1.5-2 hours a day writing as furiously as I can type. I’m not making a novel, folks. I am not examining what I write, I’m just writing. I’m writing a pile of shit. I can only hope when the end of the month comes, I will dig into this pile and find a pony. Maybe more than one. None will likely turn into a novel, but maybe there may be several places to start on the real work of making a piece I can feel good about. Today I have a 2,000 word shortfall. I hope to shorten that over the weekend. I would love to meet the quota, to run this marathon, if nothing more than to prove to myself that I can.

I can’t wait to see what comes of it, Rick.

Rick, I have started NaNoWriMo many times and hit the 50,000 word goal once, 2 years ago, I think. I’ve yet to pull that steaming turd out and try to make any real sense of it.

But it is oddly magical, that goal 50k words in 30 days. You carve out the time (or me it was 4 to 6 am) and you write. You don’t stop to rework or go back. You’re locked in. The words just disappear behind you, like the yellow line in your review mirror on a dark highway.

I wanted to try it again this year, but I missed the first couple of days and realized I’m too damn tired to get up at 4 in the morning.

Thank you sirs. I appreciate the support and the camaraderie.
