London, Claro & J.G. Ballard

I finally got around to posting some photos/jaded thoughts from London, this first dispatch whilst reading Claro’s Electric Flesh & this second dispatch whilst reading J.G. Ballards’s The Drowned World. Apologies to anyone who likes London, I wasn’t feeling it.

Meeting goat piñata party hosts at a random back-alley Belgravia pub.

    That’s the life.

Derek: About Ballard: Ballard is one of those writers who never quite matches what I want him to be, which is not to say that I don’t have an affinity for him.

I call that damning with faint praise — that not/don’t jazz, to say nothing of affinity — but I have read half a dozen of Ballard’s books, and I do recommend them. I liked Crash and The Atrocity Exhibition; Super-Cannes is also worth reading.

Take a look at the Ballardian website, if you’ve not done so.

Thanks, the Drowned World is the first thing of his i’ve read, i’m interested to read more.

Dinner with goat piñata hosts was indeed decadent. As were the tacos de chivo i had over the weekend.

Your account of London was interesting, too, as — this is pretty depressing to admit — I’ve not been in London in over fifteen years.

And you might dig J.G.Ballard & Architectures of Control by Dan Lockton. It’s a couple of years old (!), but that might make it even more courant.
