Derek: About Ballard: Ballard is one of those writers who never quite matches what I want him to be, which is not to say that I don't have an affinity for him. I call that damning with faint praise -- that not/don't jazz, to say nothing of affinity -- but I have read half a dozen of Ballard's books, and I do recommend them. I liked Crash and The Atrocity Exhibition; Super-Cannes is also worth reading. Take a look at the Ballardian website, if you've not done so.
