This image reminds me of Constructing the Grand Canyon. A piece I saw once at the Walker in an exhibition of Mark Tansey’s work. You can’t see it in the image (if the link works) but the walls of the canyon have the words of Derrida “inscribed” on them. The piece is large. It took up a wall. I don’t know, 12 feet tall, 18 feet wide? The scale was thrilling.
The phrase “International Harvester” isn’t without merit. I like saying “Cub Cadet.” I doubt it would fill the bill of Big Machine, however. Perhaps it could be the baby in a film only peopled by such?
This puts me in mind of Daryl’s idea of having a big machinery amusement park for adults. People would pay good money for a chance to smash something with a big machine.
Maybe y’all can set this thing up when you retire to Marfa. Hornswoggle someone into thinking it’s an art project and get you some federal or private foundational dollars.

There is a fine video about the Bauforum24 Kalender 2010 on Bauforum24 TV (Web TV für Bau und Baumaschinenindustrie).
I am buying copies of this calendar for lucky people on my Christmas list! Seriously.
(Here is where you can order your own copy — or copies.)
It inspires awe. It’s almost as good as the trailer for 2012.
Big. Machinery.
That is one honking awesome trailer.
Trailer.
Yes! Yes, yes.
When I was in my late teens, a friend and I used to wander around industrial areas of Dallas and imagine a film peopled solely by Big Machines.
Komatsu Forklift. I love to say that.

I like “International Harvester”. It always makes me think of the Grim Reaper.
“Don’t fear the reaper”: the tagline for the film.
“Cub Cadet” could easily be the baby — or perhaps a comical R2D2-style sidekick.

People would love it.
