Red House Painters – Song For A Blue Guitar
I post this because it makes me ache – I put this footage to it today and wanted to share it with my friends.

This aches me happy.
Funny enough, my comment on another post I thought I was putting here. I’ll repeat it. “Oh Phil. You are so on my beam. Thank you.”
You guys have got to get together, I’m thinking.
Rick, when I first read your comment I thought it was for this, so, it has all fallen into place my friend. I’ll listen to anything by them and love it, but, this track kinda carves me up – it feels good having you along.
Shiela, I concur. Phil? You still coming in the mid-winter? Somewhere in this house we have a CD from Red House Painters. We haven’t listened to it for a while, I don’t know if Danny transferred it over to the house computer. We’ll have to look for it. Tomorrow we go into production mode making, baking gifts for the family and friends. We have also done a mixtape for the past twenty-two years. Last year we failed to get it produced and sent. We’re going to listen while we work. We hope to produce last year’s and a new one. Will we manage it? We’ll see, we’ll see.
Rick, I haven’t booked yet, but, yes! I’m looking at probably the second week in February.
Good luck on the production mode you have the will and you have the mixtape, so, I’m sure you will do it – use that early evening Martini as a carrot.
you’re so good at this, Phil.
I haven’t seen your video yet, but I already know I love the song and I want to say how much I have enjoyed the new Mark Kozelek transformation into Sun Kil Moon. His latest album, April, was very hard for me to enjoy when I first bought it, but now I love it and think it is his best ever.
M Sarki I love that you say it was hard to enjoy when you first bought it. Such are many of my favorites. I will look for April today.
Kozelek’s in all his guises remains constant – wonderful.
Rick, it is a beautiful album.
Deron, you are very kind.
If anyone is interested I wrote an article about the five best new indie acts to watch in 2010.

Good article, M Sarki, thank you. (I subscribed to your feed, looking forward to looking back and forward on your blog.)
Phil, sorry to be so late in getting my thanks to you for this. I’m always amazed by these films you make. One thing that always gets me is the uncanny syncopation of sound and motion. I could watch this opening shot of the man walking by a hundred times (and probably will), and the scenes with the children just shake me like a ragdoll.
Daryl, thank you for looking – how these go together is mostly chance. Sometimes it happens in 5 minutes and sometimes it takes days. I guess the biggest problem is finding footage that is saying something to me and seeing as I have never been a film watcher I have no points of reference. I just wander the back lanes of Youtube until I find something.
I guess they come out of my desire to share the music. I did another last night, but, didn’t feel it was appropriate to post another so soon. So, if you fancy seeing and listening to This Summer by Hayden I’d appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks to all, you are the best.
I’d love to know what movies the images these are from. Do you know? Do you edit any of it, or do you post it entire, as you find it?
I try not to edit if possible, but, with the music being a certain length I occasionally edit to include the bits I want. I’m sure this is unedited – I may have split it and then cross faded it it acheive something. I think without checking as I’m at work this is from Tarkovsky’s Nostalghia, I think! I know parts of this were in colour so I converted the whole thing to black and white.
I have used his films a lot – If I am having trouble finding what I am looking for I know that he will not disappoint. I can be more specific once home if you want.
Thanks for looking, Lucy.
Tarkovsky’s Mirror and Stalker have just gone to the top of my movie queue…
Lucy, having got home this is either all Mirror or Mirror and a few other scenes – my mind is playing games!
