Smog
There are three things I am sad that I lost when my computer crashed in December 2007.
1) A piece I did for an NPR grant that had the last lucid recording of my Grandmother in it. She now has severe dementia and doesn’t remember me so well.
2) an hour-and-a-half recording I did of two friends discussing the best movies of 2007.
3) a twenty page (and counting) exposition on the band Smog, going through every album and song, writing down fierce connections and a time line.

Ahh, Smog the records I buy and never sell, just in case it gets really bad I can always remind myself that I’m not as down and Bill Callahan.
Sorry you lost your writing, sucks. If you do re-write it would love to read it.

I’m very sorry you lost your recording and writing. My mother died four years ago and my father hasn’t changed the recording on his home answering maching, a recording of my mother saying “Hello, we can’t come to the phone right now …” Every time I hear her voice I’m overcome by a great wave of happiness and sadness … Since my mother’s been gone there’s not a single person in the world who’ll buy me tee shirts and underwear too small for my middle age torso … On my computer I have a great deal of writing that I’ve neither printed out nor saved on disc, which is something I need to do, immediately. It would be a personal disappointment to lose the work I’ve managed these last few years.
Get yourself an external drive, Jon. It’s worth it.
Yeah, you should throw a link in there for a cheap external drive…just sayin’
