Taxes

I made about twenty-one thousand dollars last year?

and somehow owe a thousand dollars to the government.

How is anyone ever supposed to lift themselves out of poverty?

look for deductions. I bet you bought stuff that can be counted against your taxes for business purposes. computers, software, equipment.

Aren’t you entitled to a sizable return?

No, Christopher Walken. I am entitled to set my shoulder to the oar and put my back into it.

Hey, IANAL but that doesn’t sound right. You should call a tax guy about it.

A friend of mine made about that much one year got almost $4000 BACK.

Did you remember the Making Work Pay credit (it’s on Schedule M)?

I made a few thousand less than you, and my total owed was about $800. But with witholdings a little under $400 and the $400 from Schedule M, I only had to write a check for about $50.

In general, I’m not too upset with a 2%ish effective tax rate. I’d appreciate having to pay less, but I’ll not complain about that. I like the government enough not to begrudge it my 2%.

Thank you all, I think… how does The Dude say it? “Events have recently come to light.” That is to say, I think I’ll be just fine.
