It may very well be the most terrifyingly destructive force in existence.

My guess is that if it is, it’s only because people underestimate its destructive ability.
Perhaps a different take from the dark continent here, but -
People are not intrinsically stupid. The things I peg the blame on are poverty, and lack of education. Education is the tough nut to crack, especially in a poverty stricken environment. Very chicken/egg. And I need an omelette.
