another novel

Or a subplot in the last one:

Jamie Paulin-Ramirez was a straight-A nursing student when she abruptly left Colorado last fall with her 6-year-old son and turned up in Ireland, where her parents say she was arrested this week in an alleged plot to assassinate a Swedish cartoonist.

Well the actual story is that 7 people, including this American woman, were arrested in various parts of Ireland last Tuesday, after having been observed by the Gardai for several months. The Gardai were of course being informed by the FBI, the CIA and every European intelligence agency going, and they took computers and other evidence when they raided these houses. This happened last Tuesday and this is what the Irish press have been talking about this week, in relation to this story. Mostly on Wednesday.

I initially read this as Jamie Paulin-Ramirez was a straight nursing student.

Lucy, thank god you are there to make sense of this – all we get on the news here is shit about global warming and Gordon Brown.

Well I tend to scour the Guardian, Phil, whether I like it or not, but it can be surprisingly diverse. It’s weird because this story has been reported with sole focus on the Jihad Jane angle in the US press. Jihad Jane only became a story because all these people (none Irish) decided that Ireland would be a good place for them to hatch this plan. Like that’s all we need here. Getting it from both ends lately.

The story from this end. Also here, with different detail.

I see Pynchon is working on another novel. Well, this is a brilliant marketing campaign to say the least.
