For the Newbies

As I approach my third anniversary with y’all (still a little more than a month away), I thought I might offer the newer members a trip down my memory lane. Deron has many times queried Sheila for helps and hints on fashion. I’m not sure, but my comment, buried here, may have been my first appearance.

“I guess what I’m trying to say is, I buy the $120 dress.” (Deron Bauman)

Rick, thank you for this plunge into our collective memory. It’s one of my very favorite clustermoments.

I tell you, though. It’s you who’s our fashion adviser. (Well, you and Amy.) Me, I just entice men to don dresses and women’s hosiery.

Rick–Cindy and I are lifting the glass to you right now, with a feeling of miraculous good luck for the fact of our now knowing you and Danny. So cheers, and cheers again with hopes of many more years of us all looking in often.

I bet if I spun the ChatRoulette wheel, I’d find loads of men I could coax into trying on dresses and women’s hosiery.

A woman can get a man to do anything.

So I’ve been told, but it hasn’t always worked out that way.

P.S. If any of y’all regulars (‘flockers or friends) have teeny little feet (women’s size 7, narrow) and would like a pair of early 1960s Scheherazade (Fatima) slippers, drop me a line via the contact form.

Black velveteen. Fake jewels (teardrop cut). Scarcely worn. The footwear equivalent to audio exotica.

I think we should commemorate Rick’s anniversary with a photo of him in a $120 dress. I’ll even spring for the dress. Anyone?

  9. Sheila Ryan on March 14th, 2010 at 8:26 am

Okay, Kathy. Count me in. We haven’t done something like this in a while.

Thanks, Rick. I hadn’t seen that thread and having now met you it felt good reading it I must say.

Me, I’m not good at all with clothes.

Sheila, shouldn’t we ask Rick if he’s on board with this? I mean…

    Well….

Oh hell. Who cares what Rick wants?

Rick: You. $120 dress. Picture. On the date of your cflock anniversary. We will comment appropriately.

(should we call Danny and tell him?)

This is going to be great!!

Kathy and Sheila, I see your dare and I’ll raise questions.

Should we make a production of it? I think yes, I’m willing to model.

Should we go with the dare as proposed, or shall we embellish on the original idea? (I have worn a dress in a show once, it was not a “drag show” per se, but more like a toned-down baptist junior college version of Hasty Pudding, in a little town in Northeast Arkansas.) (Hm, listening to the video on the link, the first guy talking sounds like my recorded voice, I think.)

Should it be, as Deron’s, where I assume, more/less, the stance of a mannequin or form displaying the dress? Or should we take it a step further, perhaps 50′s or 60′s kitsch or should it go “high camp”–full-on crazy drag? (This figures into who I’ll need to call upon for assistance in preparation.) This goes way back, but my drag queen name is Susie Talmadge. Perhaps more in ken with 50′s or 60′s kitch, I think. Might figure into the dress purchase.

Then there is my size. I’m 6’1″, nearly 200 lbs. at last reckoning. I wear a men’s shoe size 14 (which is problematic if we’re going whole hog). What size dress to get?

Deron, can you and Amy come up for a weekend sometime in April to photograph? I’m not sure I’d trust anyone else to capture it. Perhaps we could do “before, in transition and finished?”

    I await your opinions.

(. . .pssst…. sheila!! ….pssst….. Rick said “per se”, so I think he’s really serious!!!)

(psssst . . . also, a freakin’ size 14 shoe? The entirety of my ancestry rowed across the pond from Scotland in a size 14 shoe!!!)

A hem. Yes. Rick. We need to talk about the particulars.

Hell, Rick. I’ve booked a flight!
