Thanks, Deron. It was an odd shell of a place with every room being a variation of this scene. Here’s a nice street view of it when it was up and running.
Haunting photo, Phil. Thanks. Very close to one of my favorite fishing spots – the north jetty. For the record though, it was hurricane Ike, not Katrina that destroyed much of Bolivar peninsula in September of 2008.
Sheila – Must have been new owners at that place. Bolivar peninsula motel artwork typically had more of a dogs playing poker/velvet Elvis kind of theme. And If that is a beer bottle on the bedside table, then this is indeed one iconic shot.
It was always a bit sketchy over on Bolivar but you could always get some of the best tasting gulf coast seafood at Stingarees and hear great Texas blues/rock in the local bars. Sadly, it is all gone now.
I love this one, Phil.

That sure is some high-falutin’ wall art for a cinder-block motel.
Thanks, Mark – changing info!
Now I feel really silly
Hurricanes were hitting the Gulf pretty thick and fast for a few years there. Katrina, Rita, Ike . . .

Mark, it was indeed a beer bottle.
