Rear Derailleur Bokeh

I thought that I’d share a recent photo that I took. It was taken a few days ago, late at night, with a Nikon D700 and a 135mm f/2 DC lens. The photo is of the rear dérailleur of my bike.

Love the artificial light glow – sweet photo!

    Ditto on the lighting.

Thanks guys, and thanks for Deron for editing my post. I realized too late that the photo was pretty big.

The lighting is simple indoor lighting. What’s magical is the 135mm F/2 DC Nikon lens. It takes incredible pictures and has a shallow depth of field, meaning that it will blur stuff pretty easily.

    I love a good blur.

you bet, range. in this case it was Phil that got to it, but I appreciate the shout out.

No worries, thx Phil. Yep, I love that blur too!

The lens is hard to get. There are only about 15,000 that have been made. We got it pretty easily enough in Taipei, but we found only one on eBay and it sold for almost 2x as much as we paid.

So-called Prime lenses are harder to use than zoom lenses. I’ve been used to Zoom lenses, my 18-200VR is my main lens on the D200, but I really enjoy the crispness of the 135mm. It was definitely worth the purchase.
