stay classy
As noted earlier, in addition to menacing behavior toward multiple members of Congress, one protestor called Rep. Barney Frank a “faggot”, a taunt greeted by laughter from fellow protestors.
We’re now getting reports that other protestors yelled “nigger” at Rep. John Lewis (D-GA).
It’s good to see the bill debated on its merits.
Update: More.
Update: Still more.

These people will never have any more sense than a stick has. Let’s hope that the people using them as sticks are the ones who, in the end, can’t slip away quick enough to avoid the fruits of their labor.
I hope so, Daryl. I’m trying to think of a time when that has proved to be the case.
I know. Shit.
Sorry–that was from me; this computer reverts to Cindy, as everything should.
“He said he hadn’t heard such vitriol since March 15, 1960 when he was protesting segregation laws that forced him to sit in the back of buses.”
I never have been able to figure out why the Tea Party people think they are the only ones who have guns and a willingness to be ruthless in defense of something. I mean, who do you want to face–a person with a gun who has lost a family member because an insurance company said fuck off at the moment when treatment was needed, or some asshole with a gun who has never had an original thought and ( on weekends) actively doesn’t like the direction the country is going in?
care to wager how (or even if) this will be reported in the media?
let’s try a little thought experiment: imagine Iraq war protestors calling Republican congressmen niggers and faggots in the halls of congress, then overwhelming congressional security to keep from being thrown out of the building.
I wonder what kind of coverage that would have had?
My understanding of your understanding is that you are exactly right–there would have been calls for them to be designated “enemy combatants” and sent to secret places without legal representation. These people are depending on the same reprehensible wink and nod that has attended all the lynchings and cross-burnings in our country’s most morally blighted moments. And they are getting it from the likes of Fox News, and Beck, and Limbaugh, and Coulter…. Evil people speak and then slide away, assuming an innocent gaze that their mothers should have slapped off their faces long ago.
hey, Daryl, did you hear how the people in the crowd chanting were actually Acorn plants? I’m looking forward to 30 years from now when healthcare reform was a Republican proposal.
“I wonder if I was watching people’s worldviews breakdown before their eyes. And they had nothing left but to name call, spit and litter as a form of futile and immature protest.”
Thanks for that last link, Deron. That e-mail shows the situation for what it is. Those people don’t really care about anything but making aggressive displays of thier longing for the leveled ground of apocalypse. They see their major strengths as the survivalist cunning they would deploy when all social order broke down–and that would be their chance to assert their own control over, yes–a new government. Isn’t it odd to think of how close this is to what the Bolshevics wanted. And it’s exactly what the militant Islamic fundamentalists want: a fuck-all destruction that pulls the whole world house down, so that at least the people crawling out of the rubble will have a more even chance of reestablishing things.
The Tea Party people make the same mistake that many teens make when, having had it pretty easy while mom & dad paid for everything, they say “How hard can it be to make your own way in the world, free of all the bullshit?” The Tea Party people are blind to all that has been done for them. That’s why so many of them are fond of Ayn Rand, even though she didn’t–and they don’t–take a close look at the underpinnings of their opportunity to hold such views. They haven’t even learned that pulling down a government doesn’t mean that the forces of corruption will be conquered. Isn’t it amazing that these people could even say the word conservative with a straight face? They demonstrate the very thing that conservatives have always stood against: forces of radical change that seek to trample on tradition, institutions, and the law while forcing all to conform to its views. The far Right and the far Left are joined in the Tea Party shitfest.
