How is he doing? and how are you guys doing? It’s hard to see the picture here, I can’t even imagine how it felt to pick him up from the pet hospital.

    Oh, sweetheart.

  3. Kelsey Parker on May 17th, 2010 at 11:50 am

Just imagining his disorientation upon waking up makes my heart hurt.

  4. Deron Bauman on May 17th, 2010 at 11:50 am

he’s doing much better. the first time I picked him up to carry him outside to go to the bathroom, I lost it, but he is standing now and getting around on his own when he wants to and wagging his tail when you come in the room.

  5. Deron Bauman on May 17th, 2010 at 11:50 am

the range of emotions has been fantastic.

  6. Michael Smith on May 17th, 2010 at 11:54 am

I keep thinking about you guys. I’m always telling people I’m not a pet guy, nevery really have been, but you don’t need to be when you understand love and family.

I don’t know what to say. I’m thinking ’bout all y’all.

    BIG HEARTS FOR DUGGS!

  9. Andrew Simone on May 17th, 2010 at 12:42 pm

    sadface.

Good Boy. And one of the most heart wrenching things in the world to me is seeing the way a dog, hurting, will wag to show love in the middle of it all. Dogs are mostly better than humans.

    Aww.

  12. Lauren Stephenson on May 17th, 2010 at 12:50 pm

    :( What a beautiful guy.

  13. Sheila Ryan on May 17th, 2010 at 1:10 pm

I miss coming over to y’all’s house. I miss y’all. I miss the dog excitement. I want to drive to Dallas right now and love everybody all up.

  14. Lucy on May 17th, 2010 at 1:14 pm

Yes, my first response was ‘oh poor sweetheart’, but he is obviously adjusting fast. I’ve seen a few three legged dogs here in Brooklyn, and their owners say they manage fine, the other legs just get more wear so they get tired a bit faster.

  15. Deron Bauman on May 17th, 2010 at 1:15 pm

yes, he is adjusting crazy fast.

Sheila, we’ll keep a look out.

  16. Amy Mabli on May 17th, 2010 at 2:12 pm

Sheila, please try to get here in time for dinner.

By the way, Dougie has only eaten chicken breast or tilapia since his surgery. I am cool with cooking for him if he won’t eat dog food. I think if you lost your leg, you should get to eat whatever the fuck you want.

I obviously missed something while traveling. (Two weeks out of Internet contact while on a ship?) This just tears my heart. What happened?

  18. Deron Bauman on May 17th, 2010 at 2:53 pm

he was diagnosed with bone cancer recently and had his surgery last week.

  19. Michael Grant Smith on May 17th, 2010 at 8:54 pm

    The categories say everything.

  20. Phil Bebbington on May 18th, 2010 at 12:29 am

Good to know he is recovering and adjusting, Deron. Good to know that you all are.

I’m sure it won’t be long before he is using his 3 legged status to get favours and attention. Who could blame him for that.

    Thinking of you all.

  21. Francesco Rizzi on May 18th, 2010 at 7:34 pm

Thank you for the update. Seems I wasn’t the only one wondering how the surgery went. If the doctors are ‘happy’ with the results, it’s good news. He seems to be such a lovely friend to have around. Clearly it won’t be easy, but the ability to adapt is one of nature’s greatest gifts, so I expect he will surprise you in no time.
All my best to you all – and if you ever need, drop a line: I’ll cook whatever he wants and send it over if needed :)

  22. Deron Bauman on May 18th, 2010 at 7:50 pm

thank you, Francesco. that is very sweet of you. he is recovering very well and is getting around like a champ.
