thank you, sir. I’m doing the research now to see if the extra cost and fancy parts plus modest energy efficiency trumps inexpensive but having to haul however many pounds into the attic.

That’s my vote.
Ross has endless usually smallish plumbing issues with his water heating system. It’s always a topic about whether to overhaul, when to overhaul… but for the most part thank God it’s holding together at least.
“without attic stairs” sounds key in your decision making process, to me. Yeah but it’s just a one off job at least.
