We took the Iz to Toy Story 3 yesterday (her first movie – we saw the “2-D” version) and ate pizza. I finished Zadie Smith’s On Beauty (finally) and mowed the lawn.
My son was in Omaha with his mother’s parents, so I got to spend some one-on-one time with my daughter this weekend. Her mother and I split up when she was one and a half, so it’s been a long time since I got her undivided attention without her having to battle her brother for it.
the girls sprang for lunch at Winstead’s. the one on Roe. then we went swimming.* later we critiqued Tiger’s lack of form and concentration
earlier at home the 4 year old gave me a mobile she made at pre-school – an old fashioned wood ruler with a dangly D A D depened underneath in RED WHITE & BLUE. on the ruler itself the words D A D R U L E S. lovely: it’s hanging on the wall in my office enevn now.
the 7 year old gave me a gift certificate for 2 rounds of golf, including cart, at Loch Lloyd. (hopefully the alligator population there has been resolved)
they say you’re not supposed to favor one child over the other…
tried more water in the ear, no good. tried q-tips, skinny soda straws, everything but pointy pencils. no good. tried turning my head to the side and shaking it up and down. no good. fun, but no good. tried alcohol, no good. did the headsahking thing while hopping on one foot and my now favorite ear poited to skylab, no good. now relying on transubstantiation though willing to entertain more traditional methods of removal.
Robert and Doc, seems the KC contingent were vocal today (and yesterday). We might ought to cook up a mini-clusterflockstock, for those of us in the neighborhood, sometime in the relatively near future? You game?

Now I’m at work.
But on Friday, via twitter, I won one of these.

Michael, what a cool gadget! are you going to treat us to scenery?
Robert, that sounds like a wonderful day.
Oh, and I drank some beer, sure, but not enough to be suffering this AM.
Deron: It was. We watched Spirited Away and I found out that she (at four years old) can pronounce Hayao Miyazaki’s name correctly.
Deron, once I get the thing I’ll be sure to post some things. I’ll be bringing it to Levi’s Gran Fondo in October – that’s for sure.
Michael, it seems perfect for that.
Robert, impressive.
