Facial expressions that I cannot represent with emoticons

Please let me know if you know a good ascii representation of any of the following:

  • a sheepish grin
  • an encouraging “it’ll be ok” smile
  • laughing after crying hysterically
  • naive determination
  • indignation
  • that particular forced smile made by a father when his daughter announces her engagement to the exact kind of man he hoped she wouldn’t

Spew! Now I am so damn tempted to spend the rest of the afternoon playing with international character sets.

I just need to be careful. I think it was six or seven or so years ago that I switched the language setting on my phone to Arabic, just to be contrary. And then for an afternoon I had a hell of a time working my way back through logic trees to the point at which I could revert to English.

How about this one for the less than pleased dad? B^/

And it’s probably cheating to construct one vertically, but for sheepish:

    Tight-lipped papa.

Tight-lipped papa! And he’s facing the wind coming in from the sea, in that hurt, self-pitying way that makes one long for the sudden appearance of an out-of-control jet ski.

[...] recent post set me to playing around in the Insert Symbol bin. I know nothing about Arabic writing, so I wonder [...]
