the road popper

The Road Popper is a bike-mounted bottle opener that we developed for our own use and decided afterward to share. We designed it to fasten discreetly to the rails on the underside of the saddle to help keep your bike looking crisp. So far, it’s worked on all the bottle caps we’ve tried it on. Material options are bronze infused stainless steel. Finish options are plain, matte gold, glossy gold, matte antique bronze, and glossy antique bronze. The Road Popper is not intended for alcoholic beverages. Chromoly does not condone cycling while under the influence of alcohol.

pretty cool… but for $40 it better somehow reduce the weight of the bicycle. Seems like a cheap bottle opener with a hole drilled in it to put it on your keychain would be better. You could put it next to your chain tool.

I have one of these on my single speed. Works double duty.

    Perrier my ass.

Who wants a bottle opener that can’t be used to open alchoholic beverages?

How many non-alcoholic beverages require a bottle opener anyway?

I knew a girl long ago who had a ring that was a bottle opener. She would put her palm over the bottle and schlock, bottle open. Saw her slap a guy once, causing the loss of a tooth.

    I’d prefer a corkscrew option.

Yeah–Maybe you could design a swing-out corkscrew on the handlebar that would let you use the brake lever to pull the cork out. Just don’t have it deployed if you are crashing and flying over the front wheel.

Then again you could always just get some of those Target wine cube “juice boxes.”

The only thing that surprises me about this retarded bike accessory is that it wasn’t posted by Mr. Smith.

I just use the handy little multi-tool jackknife thing with the allen wrenches and whatnot, since it’s always with me. And I have used it to open beer bottles since the better beers don’t come with a screw top anyway.

I do post about bikes too much, don’t I.

For the record I keep my church key on my key ring. It’s shaped like a bike.

i didn’t mean that like it was a bad thing, y’know.

Once while in college I was engaged in that very activity – cycling while under the influence of alcohol – and I was flagged down by a bike cop. Fueled by the liquid courage that had been influencing me all night, I decided to out-cycle him. Five or six near-collisions, dangerous trips down outdoor staircases, and campus shortcuts later, I lost him. I got away scot free because, well, bicycles don’t have license plates, it was dark, and the bike cop was undoubtedly pretty embarrassed.
