A Favorite Scene in Basquiat
Cindy asked me to post this. We watched the film again tonight and, again, this scene struck us as great wisdom presented in an unusual way. Isn’t that the way it often arrives?

I like this a lot, though of course it makes me want to throw up. I’m going to have to watch this movie.
I’ve been avoiding Basquiat, mostly because I figured it would set off my Schnabel allergies. But parts of that clip are lovely–the way the del Toro character checks out the red head on the sidewalk, when Warhol asks Hopper for money and then Hopper says “They’re mine now, right.”, and, yup, the business in the discussion of fame about doing the same thing over and over so people recognize it.
That’s Bowie?
Yep–that’s Bowie playing Warhol. Marvelously.
I really love the film, for many reasons. Please don’t allow Schnabelitis to keep you from it. He managed to make a film that is better than he is.
Well I loved The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.
But the whole fact of these vapid moth-like people sitting down to lunch and within 30 seconds they’re sniping at each other for cash and postcard art like they’re at a 90% off sale at Bloomingdales. Bitches.
“Sniping at each other for cash and postcard art like they’re at a 90% off sale at Bloomingdales.”
I love feeling a breath of fresh Lucy.
I assumed Hopper was playing Hopper but nope he’s playing Bishofberger.
Yeah, the script probably says “Getting out of the car after for lunch after shopping at a Bloomingdale’s sale, Bishofberger and Warhol are spotted by Basquiat and…”
Bowie’s convincing–maybe that Warhol imitation was from memory.
