the first photo of a human?
Back in September, we posted a set of old photos of Cincinnati daguerreotypes from 1848 where I caught a glimpse of two people at the Ohio River’s edge. That would make them among the very first people ever to appear in a candid photograph. 1848 is a long time ago. They looked like a pair of men, one tall, the other short. They were standing with what looked like a bucket between them. I figured they were there to fetch some water.

Check out this story at NPR. It shares what is probably an earlier picture of a human.

Um, Gunther. Isn’t that the story I linked to?
Mimic octopus.
Yeah, sorry. I just looked at the photo and remembered that he also posted what is most likely an earlier photo of a human by about 10 years. I neglected to even look at the link to see that it was Krulwich!
So if you get anything from what I’ve posted in these two comments, let it be that the general thinking is that the other photo is probably the first ever photo of a human. An honest mistake while attempting to add to the discussion.
No worries. My comment was meant to be amusing.
Mine, too. And I did just take a look at the 1838 Daguerre photo of the Boulevard du Temple!
Glad we’re all on the same page on this post! I’m newish to clusterflock. Seems like a groovy place. I was pointed this direction by one of your fellow flockers.
welcome.
