Goats who climb in order to lick

Lucy Foley tipped me to these goats (your Alpine ibex) via Twitter. They climb the wall of the dam in order to lick salt.

Ross is looking into shipping them to Brooklyn.

Place a few salt licks on a Brooklyn roof, and you got salt-licking gravity-defying Brooklyn roof goats.

    We’re working on it.

This is so cute I can barely stand it.

Isn’t it the best? I love it that they do this in order to lick salt. It makes me think of Cindy’s account of licking a wall when she was a kidlet (although I do not believe she was obliged to climb in order to lick).

I did have to stand on my tiptoes to lick the fence. I was only interested in licking the top of it, not the sides.

The eighth image in this National Geographic photo gallery shows a Montana mountain goat stretching and sort of standing on tiptoe in order to lick.

    I am like a goat.

First goat I get, I will name it Cindy.

Kenyan friends of Derek White named one of their goats Derek.

    Why, thank you. I’m honored.

  11. Sheila Ryan on November 5th, 2010 at 9:12 am

Also. Cindy? A friend of mine here in the Back of Beyond has two donkeys. Would you like photographs of the donkeys?

  12. Cindy Scroggins on November 5th, 2010 at 9:13 am

    Yes, I would. Thank you.

I used to think I’d name a tortoise Hector, but these days I’m leaning toward Paul.

I will do my best and hope that the donkeys cooperate. I hope to be out in the donkeys’ neighborhood within the next few weeks. My friend and I are going to take photos out in a weedy lot near the cornfield his family owns. The weedy lot is the site of what my friend’s brother calls the Stabbin’ Cabin, as well as an old wooden trough that fascinates me. The donkeys are on the way to the weedy lot.

I may have to lure them close with day-old pastries, which they like.

    don’t you dare.

  16. Deron Bauman on November 5th, 2010 at 9:20 am

    donkey.

  17. Sheila Ryan on November 5th, 2010 at 9:23 am

Maybe I will sing to the donkeys and my friend can record the event.

I am trying to remember now why the donkeys and the llamas had to be separated. I think that the donkeys terrorized the llamas.

I mean these specific donkeys I will try to photograph for CIndy.

  19. Cindy Scroggins on November 5th, 2010 at 9:29 am

It’s all about specifics with donkeys.

  20. Sheila Ryan on November 5th, 2010 at 9:35 am

I hope that these specific donkeys do not mistake me for a specific llama.

On first read i thought you said you were going to lure the donkeys with day-old pasties.

This is the goat named Derek.

  22. Sheila Ryan on November 6th, 2010 at 7:51 am

    That’s a right handsome goat.
