Last night

I dreamed I was on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” After the show, I directed a movie. Its title: “Brain Damage.”

I kind of liked it that Oprah interviewed me before I had even begun directing the movie.

Can’t fail with a movie titled Brain Damage.

I wish I could remember the details of “Brain Damage” more clearly, but it was a seriously heavy night in dreamland — a triple-feature, at least. The effects were effing great, though, that much I know.

The opening scene featured robotic dinosaurs who appeared to have interbred with earth-moving machinery.

    It kicked ass.

Okay, if you suddenly got a budget of 250 million dollars to make a film–and you had to spend it all….

I would just flat-out say, “No.” (Yeah, right.) But Rick and I talked about this in Kansas City. We got talking about Tim Burton, and then I got talking about Terry Gilliam, and he agreed with me that it might be a good thing if both those guys were forced to hustle on student-film budgets or budgets that were truly “independent” in the old-timey sense.

It would scare the bejeepers out of me to be handed a shitload of money.
