Quote of the day

I now realise that parenting involves only two things: persuading a child to eat and persuading a child to put on a coat.

I thought, “But wait, what about sleep? They forgot the most important thing, getting a baby/toddler/child to go to sleep so you finally have a minute’s peace.” Then I read the article. It’s about a teenager!!!

The answer is that you ignore teenagers (at least boys) just as hard as they are ignoring you. Eventually they notice. And say, “Why are you ignoring me?” Then you have 30 seconds to say, “Put on a coat, eat your breakfast, fill out college application.” It doesn’t happen that often but when it does it’s a nice compromise.

just hire someone to do the college application

Sign of the times, Luke. I shouldn’t be surprised. Although I am. I knew it was going on, but I didn’t know to what degree. You really can buy just about anything.

Can I hire someone to sleep for me, seeing as how I don’t do a very good job of it myself?

You can hire me, Sheila. My rates, however, are quite steep depending on your options.

My parents never tried to persuade or force me to eat anything, but, they did go to great lengths to explain that the food on the table was the only food I would get until the next meal time.

I’m not sure about coats although I seem to remember only having one at any one time.

    Life was easy then.

There is something to be said for limited choices.
