Overheard in the hospital cafeteria

I remember John Lennon.

You do? Wow, that is awesome.

I was thinking the other day about how difficult it is for me to even conceive of a time before the existence of Beatles music.

There was a period of time when Paul McCartney could walk around humming Hey Jude and nobody would recognize it. Blows my fucking mind.

I have to admit, hearing this today really took me aback. I am aware of generational differences, but John Lennon as historical marker? That’s tough.

For reference, I was born over two years after Lennon was shot.

There were four months and twenty-seven days between Lennon dying and me being born.

When I was a kitten, a lot of my friends were way older than me, but now a lot of them are way younger.

I was so much older then. I’m younger than that now.

I was born almost exactly 5 months after John Lennon was shot. I remember a conversation between my parents and other adults, the topic was where they were when the found out Lennon had been shot.
