I would make the point that the leader and the speaker have established their integrity and their mendacity for years in this Congress and I don’t believe it can be effectively challenged and those who do so actually cast aspersions on themselves by making wild accusations.

- Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), speaking on the floor of the House.

Just so we’re all clear, “mendacity” means “untruthfulness” or “the tendency to lie.” Thanks for that, Steve.

Clearly, the Republican Representative from Iowa is not familiar with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

I’m surprised King did not say “cast dispersions on themselves”.

    “Mendacity!”

I’m still puzzling over what the hell he thought he was saying when he uttered the word “mendacity”.

There’s a man who works in the produce department at my current store. He’s from South Carolina, but he’s lived out here in the Bay Area for almost two decades. I am attracted to his difference. Last night he warned me about the leader of the new store I’m transferring to, using the preface, “Now I don’t want to cast dispersions…” and then carrying on with his judgments. I had one of those moments where my mind spiraled off in its own direction while he spoke, catching up with him later by way of an inauthentic smile. The truth is, he lost me at “dispersions.”
