I’ll help

A neighborhood child came to the door a few minutes ago. Mia answered. Mia is 9. The child explained to Mia that she was collecting money for people “whose hearts don’t work right.” Mia said, “I’ll help.” She went to her monkey wallet–which contains her life savings–and extracted $10, which she handed over.

Mia didn’t say a word about it to either of us.

I hope I’m able to raise my kids to be so awesome if/when I have them. Good job!

    Sweetness and light.

So often the act of giving isn’t about who we are helping, but that we are willing to give up whatever it is.

I constantly have to remind myself that I do not NEED the dollar that someone asks me for when my first instinct is to simply say no because I am selfish.

    I love her.

A preschool teacher and friend would relay stories about kids doing things like this and add, “It’s the people who raised the kid.” Meaning the kid was a reflection of his/her raising. She also would tell about the opposite behavior, and again, say, “It’s the people who raised the kid. We always know.”

    Damn!

    And yes to Carole’s observation.

The teacher’s comments were about little ones. Once they are older, it is a completely different ballgame, of course.
