    It’s not news, it’s CNN.

    Holy crap.

Thanks for posting this, Andrew, and thanks for the link to Aljazeera. I heard from Twitter an anchor on CNN was giggling while footage of the tsunami was playing.

to quote a Patton Oswalt tweet: “Al Jazeera’s covering tsunami like professionals, has informed anchors, and probably thinks Charlie Sheen is a floorwax.”

I hope they get the situation at the nuclear power plant rectified.

    The CNN news was abominable.

So, ummmnh, has anyone actually turned up footage of a jocular Godzilla or monster movie reference made by a CNN anchor?

A literal, giggling comment? Something over and above the generally hysterical and sensational tone of much US media coverage?

Throughout the day, it’s true, I have heard various witnesses use the simile, “It was like a movie.”

    Anyway, just wondering.

I remember another devastating earthquake. Easter, 1964. God, how far we have come. How far we need to go.

Sheila: Godzilla and giggling rumors seem to be false.

Thanks, Joel. I just found that, too. Seems like an instance of a vaguely snide remark being repeated in ambiguous contexts, then being taken literally and repeated till it attained the status of fact.

Not that I’m either a CNN defender or detractor.
