Lured Despite
I haven’t been tempted to reread Dune since that vacation on Padre Island when I was fifteen, and I couldn’t stick it out to the end of David Lynch’s film, but hey — I have this thing for Alejandro Jodorowsky, so I’m thinking I’ll want to see this documentary about his failed attempt to film Dune back in the seventies.

Rian Johnson, who directed Brick and Brothers Bloom, told me once that that was the one cool celeb thing he’d ever brag about was sitting next to Jodorowsky at some movie in Spain.
That is one cool celebrity brag.
Hell yes. I’ve never read Dune, and probably never will, but I have a soft spot for Lynch’s film (despite studio butchery) and an even softer spot for Jodorowsky (despite pretentious mania). Santa Sangre is the mutant bee’s circus knees.
Circus Gringo.
That’s the lingo.
For years after the limited US theatrical release of Santa Sangre, getting your hands on a decent copy was a challenge. Several months ago Severin Films released it on DVD and Blu Ray, so more people can now see it via the usual sources.
