Phil, this scene feels cinematic. That’s what struck me several days ago when I first saw it on your blog and on Flickr. Something about the POV, I think, suggests a still from a “moving picture.”
Maybe a “Twilight Zone” episode. A stranger pulls off the road at a deserted gas station, thinking to check his map and plot a route to the nearest populated town. It turns out the gas station ain’t deserted . . . .

And the stranger can’t get his car to restart.
Worst of all: NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ALLOWED.
Also, the gas station is an alien spaceship. From the past.
Right, Joel! I forgot the alien angle. And the “from the past” angle.
Wait. Aliens. From the past. No booze.
Sounds kind of like some of Phil’s accounts of his travels in the States.
Those dry counties still confuse me!
Sheila, you still need to do that App! That is a money maker for sure.
Oh, right! An iPhone app for the perplexed traveler. The skinny on local liquor laws throughout the US, with special emphasis on Texas.
You have a money maker there!
