    And here’s a NSFW one.

    Tits.

  4. Derek White on December 11th, 2011 at 11:01 pm

Singular, no? Me sees the other lobe as a pregnant belly.

  5. Erica Braverman on December 11th, 2011 at 11:01 pm

    So lovely.

  6. Deron Bauman on December 11th, 2011 at 11:05 pm

Oh, sure. It’s just more fun to say plural.

  7. Derek White on December 11th, 2011 at 11:11 pm

    Cocks.

  8. Derek White on December 11th, 2011 at 11:13 pm

    Vulgar stern.

Holy (sturnus vulgaris) crap, but that is good.

. . . what I’m reading about the language of birds in the second series.

  14. Deron Bauman on December 12th, 2011 at 12:02 pm

Derek, how long is the starling season?

  15. Sheila Ryan on December 12th, 2011 at 12:13 pm

    Starling scat sample.

    Derek.

  16. Sheila Ryan on December 12th, 2011 at 12:16 pm

    Derek? Damar? Fer real?

    My spine is chilling.

  17. Derek White on December 12th, 2011 at 1:10 pm

Shiela, yes, as far as I can tell Damar is real. At first i questioned it, but watch a few other talking starlings, they are insanely creepy, beyond just mimicking.

Deron, the season pretty much ended this week, but I think last year it ended a bit earlier since it was colder. I would estimate Oct 15 to Dec 10 as the season, any evening in November you are guaranteed to see them.

  18. Deron Bauman on December 12th, 2011 at 1:20 pm

    Noted.

  19. Sheila Ryan on December 12th, 2011 at 1:39 pm

I want to watch and listen to Damar again, but I am almost afraid.

  20. Sheila Ryan on December 12th, 2011 at 1:48 pm

Damar beats Pepper by a long shot.

Y’all, you can see the videos at Derek’s Starlingo ii post. Truly, they’re best seen in that context.

  21. Derek White on December 12th, 2011 at 2:01 pm

Yeah, Pepper’s lame, though the “chicken melt” bit is funny. Damar rules. I would love to get a starling, but it’s cruel to isolate them from a flock.

Can’t remember if this made the Clusterflock rounds, but these starlings remind me of the voice over in these Diluvio films.

  22. Sheila Ryan on December 12th, 2011 at 2:12 pm

Yes. Yes. I’m certain you posted one of the Diluvio films here a couple of years ago.

    Starling voice-over.

    Waiting to happen.

  23. Sheila Ryan on December 12th, 2011 at 2:16 pm

Actually, now I am convinced that Damar did the narration for Diluvio’s “Lucía, Luis y el lobo” films.

  24. Derek White on December 12th, 2011 at 2:35 pm

Creepy, right? Which would mean Damar also speaks Spanish.

  25. Sheila Ryan on December 12th, 2011 at 2:43 pm

Uncanny, Derek — in the old sense of eerie. That really is practically the same voice and delivery.

And now that I am obsessively watching and listening to Damar, I am growing more and more distressed, especially by Damar’s repetition of “Damar.”

Torn from the flock, plunging into madness, asking over and over, “What is Damar? Who is Damar? What is Damar?”

  26. Sheila Ryan on December 12th, 2011 at 3:12 pm

    Around 0:54: “Okay, there’s gonna be some more. Don’t ever . . . click click . . . Damar.”
