Inspiration for My Papal Archival Hat
As we await artist Tom Sale‘s election to the papacy as Pope Pinky I, the design for my Papal Archivist’s hat proceeds apace. This image, courtesy of friend Ian, offers the inspiration and foundation for my papal archival hat.
A kind of cylindrical Advent calendar is what I envision.
As archivist to Pope Pinky I, I vow to stress style over substance.

How can the Pope’s name be Diablo? No matter…I’m in!
There’ll be a place in the entourage for you. Count on it.
A hat and pope-mobile in one!
Perfect, Rick! I was meditating on the mobile aspect.
At the Greensman, we have, in the fleet, a 1986 F-350 flat-bed. One driver called it “The Angry Truck.” It has since come to be known as “El Diablo.”
A hat you can ride in. A car you can wear.
Speaking as a former Catholic I’m not sure I can believe in a former Pope.
People been saying it ever since the word was out, but I’ll say it again, just because: Ex-Benedict.
And really, Rick, that’s what we all want, right? “A hat you can ride in. A car you can wear.” You nailed it. And by the way, when I hand out the patronage jobs, you’re at the head of the queue to direct the Window Dressing Department of Pope Pinky I’s papacy.
Style over substance!
Yeah, MGS, I been wondering about that. I mean, you get anointed and all — and then you resign? Like it’s just your job? You’re the Pope, I’m thinking! You can’t quit!
Maybe the Popiness ran out.
