I miss you guys.

A Texas Stripper With A Taser Gun Is On The Run!

I’m Good. I’m Uhhhh Faster than a Bear.

As we head into Labor Day weekend, I think it’s best to review the hardhitting journalism used in this piece about our relationship to wild natural life near our homes.

Folks, stay safe and informed of all the permutations of wild and domestic creatures.

Destruction Sounds

I’ve just capped off my radio show which will air tomorrow, June 28 from 7-9pm on Free103.9. It’s a two hour show on destruction. Tune in, if you can think you can handle listening to the darkest most scuzzy soundscape show ever recorded in history. If you’re unavailable at that time or radio frequency to break your ears, the show will be available on the show page for later ruination. Grraaawwwhhhhhhrrrrr!

What happened to cartoon network?

A new Andrew W.K. project. It looks really great, actually. Despite my confusion as to how Andrew W.K., Cartoon Network and the concept all came together. Thanks to the re-tweeting of Jesse Thorn.

A Day in the Park is an outdoor, open to the public, free game in Central Park, NYC on June 13th. We are proud to be a part of the festival, Come Out And Play 2009. If you have nothing (special) to do on June 13th at noon, please register for our game (space is limited!) We will be making sure you have fun solving big big tangrams and running around in the park on missions for fun. We’ll even have a fun prize pack for the team who wins biggest!

All Over The Map

I have recently been hanging out with the folks over at New York Society for Acoustic Ecology, and I was recently invited to contribute a short audio piece for a Giant Ear))) monthly show back in January. My snippet ended up in the front of David Watson’s All Over The Map show. Some of the ideas in the piece are sourced from our great clusterflockers! Enjoy here if you like.

Should you need an amble on Manhattan’s Upper West Side…

You might like to come across a projection screen along the sidewalk between 67th and 68th Streets on Columbus Avenue. Here you can find an animation/video collaboration I did with fellow artist, Francisca Caporali. The video is part of our collaboration animating explosions and destruction of New York City in major motion pictures on top of original video footage. You may also text to the rolling text on the screen with your opinions of anything you should like.
edited for clarity. The projection screen is part of an empty storefront that is being reinvigorated by art. The projection screen is not on the ground.

Thing-a-day

I’m participating in Thing-a-day this year. I think it’s a bit like India’s DrawMo! but without the emphasis on drawing- although that’s what I’m doing over there. It’s been a week, and it seems I’ve stumbled onto “unexecutable” as my focus. I am currently illustrating things I cannot do. I may switch it up to things I can do- executables- but for now I like the idea of drawing things I can’t make happen.

Dear Clusterflock

Hi folks, I have a question for the flockers. I’m working on a new audio project and I’d like to hear from everyone:

What sound does the stock market CRASH sound like?

Please answer in comments. Thanks.

That funny fake news thing…

I am not nor will I ever be a great news writer. Or even a news writer. Or a writer. Basically, I’m inept with the English language. When I posted about the fake NYTimes site earlier this week, I only showed you one part of the entire paper, and just a fake ad at that.

All we are saaaaaying!

This is an ad from this awesome. I haven’t gotten through all of the content yet, but wanted you guys to get first glance.  The times they are a-chaaanging!

Psst! Retro Kidz, son.

I saw these guys on the train a couple of days ago and their look stayed in my brain like a Cypress Hill cut. They all were rocking 90s gear: Champion sports jackets, hi-top fade haircuts, huge Africa pendants, the whole nine. I was telling my roommate about them when he responded with something like “Yeeeeeah, booooyeee! It’s a new craze- they’re called Retro Kidz.” Thinking it was a trend, I went in search of the subculture on the intertubes. Come to find out, I shared a subway car with these geniuses on Tuesday. I’m so glad the 90s hip-hop is now retro. I get to enjoy the running man once again. Thanks to the Manhattan bound E-train for this tip.

East Village Radio

This weekend I met some friends at a party for East Village Radio at the South Street Seaport. To be honest, my motivations were more for the seaport than the party, but I headed my way down there with the hopes of a VIP pass (read free beer) and a good view of the fading light over shipmasts. It turned out to be a wicked party hosted by KRS-One and featuring a bunch of other amazing talent. Maybe someday soon, I’ll write some posts about the talent. But here I want to give a big ups to East Village Radio. The party was awesome and they put together a pretty great service. They are a free, internet only independent radio station operating out of a storefront closet in Manhattan. One of the few signs of anti-conglomeration media floating in the ether.

Polaroids, don’t call it a comeback

Polaroid is looking for suggestions from Amateur Photography readers

We expect Polaroid to launch a lower-end ZINK-enabled camera, also producing 2×3in prints, this winter (though Polaroid has yet to announce this officially).

In an exclusive interview with AP, Polaroid bosses said they want readers to ‘define the next generation Polaroid PoGo ProSeries’ cameras.

Michael Cera is Impossible

Michael Cera still occupies that special place between unicorns and beach days. Who knows how long he will survive in such vaunted company, but for now let’s just enjoy the magic.

Hi, Folks. The Twenty120 site has launched and the video featuring me is up. I can’t direct link to the video, but I can send y’all directions — under films, the one featuring yours truly is #10.  Directed by Henry Lu, Joe Rudge and Dan Maloney. I hope you enjoy my video as well as all of the others!  Thanks to curator Conor Swegle for putting it all together.

Twenty 120

twenty120
This year I was invited to have my Vote Free or Die Hard Campaign documented for a festival called Twenty 120. Henry Lu and Joe Rudge directed and our editor is Dan Maloney. This year’s theme is Truth vs. Deception and the website launch party is tomorrow, July 17th at Cinespace in Hollywood. Although the party is too far for me to attend, it is free with RSVP, (through the Twenty120 site) if any of you internet types in CA are out there. It should be a fun time, and the shorts will surely be a good time. More to come here soon.

Graffiti Ad Hacking

I’m always impressed by these artists that can come into a station and cut and paste new meanings into ubiquitous ads. Usually I’m just happy to see something like a gum moustache on Britney Spears. This one takes the craft to new heights. An amazing find. Thanks, Jenny.

LMCC Open Studios last Thursday

Here’s an image from the LMCC Swing Space Open Studios last Friday. Francisca Caporali and I were awarded a Swing Space back in March and just finished up our project for the wine and snacks event. Pictured here was our interactive explosions on the windows at 120 Broadway. Viewers were invited to place explosions on the windows in order to make it look like NYC was being destroyed. We also created 3 videos where painted images of destruction were superimposed on video shot in the city. I will have links to those videos one day.
