East Village Radio

This weekend I met some friends at a party for East Village Radio at the South Street Seaport. To be honest, my motivations were more for the seaport than the party, but I headed my way down there with the hopes of a VIP pass (read free beer) and a good view of the fading light over shipmasts. It turned out to be a wicked party hosted by KRS-One and featuring a bunch of other amazing talent. Maybe someday soon, I’ll write some posts about the talent. But here I want to give a big ups to East Village Radio. The party was awesome and they put together a pretty great service. They are a free, internet only independent radio station operating out of a storefront closet in Manhattan. One of the few signs of anti-conglomeration media floating in the ether.
Polaroids, don’t call it a comeback
Polaroid is looking for suggestions from Amateur Photography readers
We expect Polaroid to launch a lower-end ZINK-enabled camera, also producing 2×3in prints, this winter (though Polaroid has yet to announce this officially).
In an exclusive interview with AP, Polaroid bosses said they want readers to ‘define the next generation Polaroid PoGo ProSeries’ cameras.

Michael Cera is Impossible
Michael Cera still occupies that special place between unicorns and beach days. Who knows how long he will survive in such vaunted company, but for now let’s just enjoy the magic.
John Mc_____

Hi, Folks. The Twenty120 site has launched and the video featuring me is up. I can’t direct link to the video, but I can send y’all directions — under films, the one featuring yours truly is #10. Directed by Henry Lu, Joe Rudge and Dan Maloney. I hope you enjoy my video as well as all of the others! Thanks to curator Conor Swegle for putting it all together.

Twenty 120

This year I was invited to have my Vote Free or Die Hard Campaign documented for a festival called Twenty 120. Henry Lu and Joe Rudge directed and our editor is Dan Maloney. This year’s theme is Truth vs. Deception and the website launch party is tomorrow, July 17th at Cinespace in Hollywood. Although the party is too far for me to attend, it is free with RSVP, (through the Twenty120 site) if any of you internet types in CA are out there. It should be a fun time, and the shorts will surely be a good time. More to come here soon.

I’m always impressed by these artists that can come into a station and cut and paste new meanings into ubiquitous ads. Usually I’m just happy to see something like a gum moustache on Britney Spears. This one takes the craft to new heights. An amazing find. Thanks, Jenny.
LMCC Open Studios last Thursday
Here’s an image from the LMCC Swing Space Open Studios last Friday. Francisca Caporali and I were awarded a Swing Space back in March and just finished up our project for the wine and snacks event. Pictured here was our interactive explosions on the windows at 120 Broadway. Viewers were invited to place explosions on the windows in order to make it look like NYC was being destroyed. We also created 3 videos where painted images of destruction were superimposed on video shot in the city. I will have links to those videos one day.

Internets Celebrities present Checkmate
The latest video is up! Thank you to Internets Celebrities, CHEA!
Waterpod Beta
I saw this project yesterday at the LMCC Workspace Open Studios. The Waterpod beta is a project by Mary Mattingly.
The Waterpod is a floating sculptural Living Structure designed as a new habitat for the global warming epoch. It will launch in New York in May, 2009, from the Newtown Creek between Brooklyn and Queens, navigate down the East River, explore the waters of New York Harbor, and stopping at each of the five boroughs it will dock at several Manhattan piers on the Hudson River.
I kind of want to take a ride on the waterpod beta.
Did you ever wonder, Deron?
what sweet ride was featured in that you movie you just saw? A resource:
Now I just have to find the internet demolition movie database, or found it. Either way.
Was the Death Star Attack an Inside Job?
How did the missile make a right angle turn after entering the exhaust port? How could a missile shot in the vacuum of space–that would tend to keep going in the same direction as it was released, according to the laws of physics–be *sucked* into an *exhaust* pipe? “Exhaust” means to exhale or blow out… Wouldn’t the missiles have been blown awry of their target rather than sucked in? If it had been an intake pipe, then the “bending” path of the missiles could be plausible. Why have these discrepancies never been investigated, let alone explained?
Audience Participation
Since the weather is getting nicer everywhere, my sister and I started ranking modes of transportation. I’d like to get some feedback about how y’all rank the following speeds for getting where needs gotten and enjoyability (yes, new word!) In no particular order:
Biking
Walking
Boating
Train(-ing)
Flying
Driving
Running
*Skateboarding (optional)
What has Mary been up to lately?

Glad you asked. I finished up knitting five foot-long socks for lightbulbs and then also performed in the installation. Look for me on A Moment of Luxury and Rachel Ray.
Vote Free or Die Hard
We’re open!

I want to let you know about an opportunity to be a part of a very important campaign this year starting in Jersey City, NJ. Our best option for 2008 is John McClane. No, not John McCain for President. John McCLANE for Hardest Dier. Featured in those Die Hard biography pictures. He has counter-terrorism expertise and is unkillable! Help us get him on the ballot for the election on April 12th in New Jersey. Our campaign office will be open by appointment at Mana Fine Arts and is an opportunity to pick up information about John McClane and to pick up any campaign schwag we have on offer- buttons, t-shirts, and posters. I hope to see you there for this thrilling step towards the upcoming election on April 12th!
Internet Dream
A big thank you to Sean Salmon who helped me come out of the knitting coma I’m currently in for a brief foray into internet memeland. Today’s big find: Tay Zonday. He is so internet dreamy with his chocolate (original) and cherry chocolate (dr. pepper flavor) rain. Check him out!
Sugarbush Squirrel

There seems to be something hilariously off color about this squirrel. Thank yous to Laura.

Meeting Resistance
I just got home from a screening of Meeting Resistance by filmmakers Molly Bingham and Steve Connors. I can’t recommend it more. The film is a survey of Iraqis discussing their reasons for joining the resistance to American occupation. Their perspectives are virtually absent elsewhere, and couldn’t be more important to expose ourselves to. I left the Q&A with the filmmakers feeling a profound sense of relief that this side of the story is being told with such integrity and sensitivity. I urge everyone to see it when/if it screens in your area.
